Mixed Feelings on this Breed Book
I'm torn between three and a half and four stars on this one. While I enjoyed "Jacob's Faith" by Lora Leigh, I kept wishing over and over to get past the intimate scenes and, finally, on to the plot. By about half-way through the book, there was still not much plot to be seen. The intimate scenes (while still the same scorchingly naughty stuff we are used to from Leigh) can only do so much for me before I become bored with that and need something a little more substantial.

I know the type of reputation this book has. I was wondering how "shocking" it would be to a modern liberal girl. To be honest, it wasn't that shocking but it was unexpectedly moving and thought-provoking.

It takes quite a long while to wind up to the point, but that's because the author is taking the time to set up how a good woman could, in essence, cheat on her invalid husband. He wants these people to be real. He also spends quite a bit of time with philosophical conversations between characters, as well as in their heads. The amazing part is that - in a book most people read for the naughty reputation - those conversations only create an intellectual itch, leaving much of the topics unexplored and asking for more thought on the reader's part. There's a lot more depth here than is generally credited.

There are some stylistic things that were kind of jarring to me, such as his repetition of phrases and words, but I think that may have been his purpose, sort of...

Very Disappointed.
I have been a Lora Leigh fan for many years, and will continue to be for many more. But, this book did not do justice to her as an author. The first fifty pages was nothing but repeated gibberish. The only reason I continued to read was because I knew Lora Leigh`s great writing was going to be in this mess somewhere. It tried to appeared about half way through the book. I`m sorry to say the last half of the book, while ok, was slow, the sex was mediocre, and the characters were shallow. If I was a skeptic I would think this book was written by someone else.

I was recommended Lora Leigh by writer Kate Angell. She knows how I like powerful stories that grab the reader and won't let them go. I have three of the "Breed books" and am naturally reading them out of order, typical for me. Still, that is often a good lit test to see if the book is really stand alone. Though this is fourth in the Breed Series, this one truly stands alone well. The Feline books that I have read are super, but Lora Leigh is at TOP FORM with Elizbeth's Wolf. At points in the feline books, while I am really enjoying them, the romance is eschewed in favor of breed matings. While it's powerful writing, it loses the true romance in favor of animal traits. However, with Elizabeth's Wolf, the power of the romance is dead on target. This is Lora Leigh at sheer perfection. She is so concentrated, so in tune with her characters, on the power of a predator finding and protecting his mate.
